Keep an eye on the weather forecast. If it seems that the weather is not going to be favourable for your trip, we will contact you to try to arrange another option. The skipper reserves the right to cancel/reschedule a trip in the interests of passenger comfort and safety if the weather is not suitable.
Pre-booking is essential in order that we can make the required preparations. However, you can contact us on the same day as departure, as we might have a trip already arranged that you can join or especially if you have a party of 4 or more people and we could run an additional trip in response.
HOW TO PAY
Please Contact Us first to confirm date, trip options and space availability. We then recommend that you pay through our website. This is a safe and secure method of payment and if, in the unfortunate circumstances we do need to refund your trip, it is a very straight forward process. If this is not possible for you, we can also accept cash, cheques and cards once you arrive.
TERMS, CANCELLATION POLICY AND REFUNDS
Please read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing a boat trip.
Our trips are subject to weather and a minimum of 4 booked passengers.
In the event of the weather being unsuitable, the minimum number of bookings not being reached or for unforeseen circumstances, Ocean Guides reserves the right to cancel the trip.
In such events, passengers will be informed with as much notice as possible. In the first instance, we will endeavor to resolve the situation with an alternative date or trip. If not suitable for the passengers, they will be refunded the price paid, subject to deduction of a 2.5% admin charge.
In the event of cancellation by the passengers, we will issue a refund if they have notified us at least 72 hours before departure.
We will not issue a refund if the passenger is late for departure.
MOBILITY AND HEALTH
Although our boat and island trips are not physically demanding, participants will require some agility to embark/disembark from the vessel (which may include the use of a small dinghy). Our guided island visits will involve some walking over rough ground.
Further, to comply with the terms of our insurance policy, participants are required to 'sign' a 'suitability to participate form', details of which can be found in our Terms and Conditions. When purchasing tickets you are accepting our Terms and Conditions (and 'suitability to participate'), for yourself and those on whose behalf you act. It is, therefore, important to discuss any special requirements with us prior to booking and with your party members. We will endeavour to advise you on suitability of any given trip, but it will be for you to make the final judgement. Please Contact Us by email of phone T: 01876540283 if you have any other concerns.
Details of our vessel Boreas can be found on our Contract Hire page.
OUR TRIPS RUN
From May - September and during Monday - Saturday.
We normally depart from Berneray Harbour. We will confirm by email our point of departure when you book.
WHAT TO BRING
We recommend that you bring warm and waterproof clothing, as the weather at sea can sometimes be a little cooler than on land. Sunhats and sun cream are a good idea and wear sturdy footwear with good grips. On the trips where we go ashore you may wish to wear wellies for landing. As we will be out for several hours, bring your own food and drinks.
Personal belongings can be stored on board in a dry hold, at the passenger’s own risk. Ocean Guides can accept no liability for loss, theft or damage from any cause unless such loss, theft or damage arises from the negligence of Ocean Guides or its employees.
We take children from the age of 5. All children must be accompanied by an adult (max ratio of 2 children/adult), please call if you wish to discuss further.
WHAT ABOUT SEASICKNESS?
In general, we operate in-shore water trips, we do not set out in demanding sea states and we have a very stable vessel. However, if you are concerned it might be best to take some seasickness pills before you set out.
We do not allow dogs on our trips due to the fragile ecology of the islands that we visit.
There is a toilet on board but we would advise using the harbour facilities before embarking.
SMOKING AND ALCOHOL
We operate a policy of strictly no smoking or drinking alcohol on board.
CONDUCT ON BOARD
Passengers must comply with all requests from the skipper and crew. In addition, in the interests of Health and Safety they must behave in a safe and orderly manner and be alert to all safety notices displayed on the vessel.
Ocean Guides will only use any individual information obtained from the customer lawfully in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
